Facebook chat is an awesome facility to get in touch with other users easily.You can install facebook chat in your website by using pidgin or other windows based IM on XMPP/Jabber.You may already know that pidgin uses XMPP protocol for user discovery.So this post helps you to enable facebook chat in windows using pidgin.If you already use another XMPP/JABBER based im you should follow the type 2 of the tutorial.
TYPE 1:
TO MAKE FACEBOOK CHAT WORK IN ICHAT:
1.open ichat and goto accounts and select manage accounts first and a basic tab will be showing up.In that add the following info:
Protocol: XMPP
Username: <Your Facebook Username>
Domain: chat.facebook.com
Resource: Pidgin
Password: <your Facebook password>
Local alias: <You Facebook Alias name>
2.Next click the advanced tab and then enter the following data in that
Connect port: 5222
Connect server: chat.facebook.com
(Uncheck the box labeled “Require SSL/TLS”)
Now facebook chat is enabled in windows using pidgin ichat.
TYPE 2:
TO MAKE FACEBOOK CHAT WORK IN WINDOWS IM WITH XMPP:
1.Open your instant messenger and select the option that is for adding new accounts.
2.Now you have to make an new account using the following data
Protocol: XMPP or Jabber
Username: <Your Facebook Username>
Domain: chat.facebook.com
Jabber ID: vinay.prashar@chat.facebook.com
Password: <your Facebook password>
3.Now server info will be requested and enter the below settings for it.
Port: 5222
Server: chat.facebook.com
Use SSL/TLS: no
Allow Plaintext Authentication: no
Now you have successfully enabled facebook chat in IM based windows using XMPP.
